Note: This upgrade improves system stability and performance but is irreversible. Pools upgraded to a 64 KB system volume volblocksize cannot be accessed by older software versions.

After installing a software version that supports the latest ZFS file system, you may be prompted to upgrade the system volume on each storage pool. This operation improves stability and performance by setting the system volume's volblocksize to 64 KB.

Upgrade Notification

When a pool uses an older system volume format, an information banner appears in the Storage view. It recommends performing the upgrade and specifies the required free space - 8 GB on the pool. To begin, open the Options menu for the selected pool, then select 'Upgrade system volume'.

Upgrade Process

  1. A confirmation window appears, displaying a warning that the operation cannot be undone. For safety, please type the word 'upgrade' into the confirmation field.
  2. Click Upgrade to start the process.
  3. A progress window is shown during the upgrade.
  4. When completed, a message appears indicating that the system volume has been upgraded to 64 KB. To finalize, you must export and import the pool or use the Move option if the pool belongs to a cluster.

After Upgrade

Once the system volume has been successfully updated, the pool’s status panel displays a message indicating that a pool export/import is required to complete the process. After performing this step, the system volume upgrade is fully applied.
